One of my favorite young rappers in the game, Fashawn, just put out his long talked about tribute to hip-hop royalty and his classic album entitled, Ode to Illmatic. Now I know there may be more than a few purists out there that strongly believe no one can or even should attempt to match Nasty Nas on his legendary Lp. While this statement isn’t completely unreasonable, it may keep those close minded heads out there from missing one of the dopest mixtapes I have heard in a while.
Fashawn isn’t trying to surpass or even mimic the tracks that both ignited and defined Nas’s career in hip-hop, but rather bring his own Westcoast flavor to the album that helped to define 90’s Eastcoast rap. The only complaint I have about this miztape is all the Dj Green Lantern tags, but it doesn’t take away from the core value of the lyrics and unmistakable beats which are definitely worth a download.
