Rest in Peace Eyedea.
Impressed by some and unimpressed by others. But the G.O.O.D. Music cypher is definitely worth a look (I mean everyone is going to be talking about it anyway).

One of the freshest break and afrobeat ensembles, The Budos Band, is hitting the studios once again to make their Junior album, Budos Band III. The Lp is set to drop this year but the Band was kind of enough to give all you b-boys and b-girls something to boogie to with “Unbroken, Unshaven”. Enjoy.
Sometimes it is rally hard to believe that someone so talented has left us so abruptly but such is the story of Japanese producer Jun Seba aka Nujabes. But the beatsmith still lives on through his music and many of his songs were yet to be released, the aptly title “Homeward Journey” is one of them. An album of Nujabes’ unreleased works are set to hit audiences in the next year.
KRS-One speaks on his militant mentality that fueled the making of the now legendary album Criminal Minded alongside the late producer, Dj, and close friend, Scott La Rock.
“This may sound arrogant, but it’s the truth and it’s honest. We knew exactly what we were doing when we made this album. If you notice, all the away up to Return of the Boom Bap — I stopped doing it after Return of the Boom Bap — I used to say things like, ‘We will be here forever! Forever and ever!’ I used to always speak into the future: ‘I got rhymes for the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.’ This was the ’80s. So yes, as a metaphysician, as a philosopher, you know what you are doing. We didn’t make mistakes. We still don’t. That’s why the albums are out the way they are. I say that humbly. I don’t say that with no arrogance; ‘Yeah, we knew what it was.’ No, we didn’t. What we knew was hip-hop. We knew if we came out with what our people wanted to hear, that’s just what it is. It wasn’t on the radio, there’s no videos for it. We just said what we knew the block wanted to hear at the time. We knew we were changing the game.”
Flying Lotus “Camera Day”. Sorta posted about this song a little while back when Adult Swim was doing their Summer Singles Series. “Camera Day” made its first appearance a “Swimming” with Mike Bigga aka Killer Mike spitting a few bars over it back in June/July. Now the beat has cut the emcee loose and is an entirely new beast and maybe even sicker than before.
Glad to see this Ski Beats project is finally arriving after months of hype. Damn, I remember seeing stuff about this back in November. Dope song for sure.
One of my all time favorite bands in any musical genre talk about the difference between the hip-hop game today and back when they were coming up in the late 80’s and early 90’s. This video was taken while Quest was on the Rock the Bells tour which, unfortunately, did not make it to the Midwest this year (but that’s a different story).

Compilation of beats made by Oxnard’s own Dr.No. Oh No’s “Dr.No’s Infected Gadgets”
New MED entitled ” MEDicinal Card.” Dope track produced by Madlib with some classic smoking samples.
Ever wonder how cats get their vinyls pressed? Well Invincible and Wajeed did. These two have an upcoming 7” inch vinyl coming out entitled Detroit Summer. Detroit has been coming really hard lately in terms of hip-hop and I can’t wait to hear the vocals over the beat in the background.
Preorder the Detroit Summer 7” inch here.
